Urun Flats
Located in the Kosski Plains, the Urun Flats is about 20 miles North of the city and was the site of a major battle during the Martian War of Independence. Although several people have tried, nobody has ever managed to stay on the Urun Flats long enough to build or lay claim to it.
Someone had organised over 500 braves from 6 different tribes to advance on Barsoom City to raze it in a spectacle that would not soon be forgotten. The cavalry out of Fort Wilderness had been drawn out by other Martian forces so they could not return in time to prevent the braves from reaching Barsoom City.
A Martian Shaman named Urun knew of the plan and thought that the slaughter of thousands of unarmed white folk would only result in the total annihilation of all Martians. He appeared to the General in charge of the cavalry regiment and gave him proof of what was transpiring.
When the General learned what was about to happen to the city, he ordered all his men to intercept the Martian forces - they charged full speed all day and all night, the horses and riders being kept fresh and energetic by the shaman Urun's power. The cavalry met with the 500 braves on an unnamed flat, and the braves were killed to a man.
After the battle the cavalry were hailed as heroes but Urun remained to see to the spirits of the 500 braves. Heartbroken by what he had done but knowing it was the right thing to do, he spilled his own blood on the ground in a long ritual. His spirit still guards the soil there, protecting the spirits of the fallen Martians.
