Bastion
Originally built around a fort, this city grew and prospered, even in the middle of the Martian War. Its residents are proud of their history, especially of the fact that during the War they were a "city of decent white folk livin' in a sea of green". The city was renamed to Bastion during the War as an act of defiance.
Bastion is close to the foot of the Botros Ranges on the North-Eastern side, it is largely a mining town, producing a some of the heavy minerals used on Mars and it is also the place where almost all of the precious metals and stones are mined. Due to the value and ease of portability of Bastion's chief export, caravans are prone to bandit attacks, which is why many choose to use the dangerous mountain pass as that route is quite a lot quicker, and is now protected by the Camp Devlin.
The people of Bastion have an intense rivalry with the people of Oretago, whom they see as not real Americans because "they're a bunch o' Martian huggers" but mostly they see Oretago as an annoyance, because the main link from Barsoom City and Bastion is the rail line that goes through Oretago. There is a popular belief that people in Oretago get all the best goods before they reach Bastion, and that they charge a levy on all goods being transported through their city.
