GM only

Just as we have system rules describing how characters can interact with the world and each other, so do we have some out-of-character rules for the players. Most are commonsense, some are due to the venue. Following these rules will help everyone enjoy themselves and the game flow smoothly.

Warning

If you are found to be in breach of these rules, you will be asked to stop. If you persist you will be asked to leave the game. Players asked to leave will be allowed back only at the GMs' discretion.

Out-of-character rules

  1. We expect a reasonable amount of out-of-character maturity from the players.
  2. Players can expect normal socially acceptable physical contact with other players (handshakes, hugs and so on). If you would prefer a different level of physical contact please let the other players know in a polite manner when appropriate. Please be respectful of such wishes.
  3. No violence. No real or pretend fighting with the props (props broken in this sort of pretend fight must be paid for).
  4. No alcohol or other drugs at the game. If you are under the influence of such drugs you may be asked to leave.
  5. As GMs, we may call "freeze". This means stop right now, stand still, shut up and listen. This is a safety issue.
  6. The GMs decision is final. It you disagree with a decision a GM has made or have any other complaint, please wait until after the game session has finished. If you can't wait till after the game has finished, wait until GM is free and can focus on listening to you rather than running the other players in the game.
  7. Players may Timeout at any point, such as if they need a break or are feeling uncomfortable. They can make the Timeout signal or say Timeout. We ask all players to respect this. Players wishing to remain out-of-character for a while should move to the out-of-character area.

House rules

If we play at a location other than the ANU, new house rules may come into effect. The ANU house rules are listed below.

  1. Smoking is allowed outside. Please be considerate and don't smoke near the door of the classrooms where people are going in and out.
  2. The ANU Role Playing Society is graciously allowing us the use of ANU's room, so don't do anything that will reflect badly on ANURPS.

Props

A freeform is hardly a freeform without props. The GMs encourage players to bring props for their characters.

  1. No pretend fights with the props.
  2. GMs reserve the right to ban dangerous or offensive props.
  3. Replica weapons will only be allowed with both inital GM approval and an ongoing level of maturity in the prop's use from the player. Any legal issues involving the replica weapon are the responsibility of the owners.
  4. If you are using a borrowed prop, be careful with it. GMs will provide some props, including swords and basic costuming. Let us know if you need something in particular.

Young people

  1. We will allow you to play provided you are over the age of 15, and have your parents permission.
  2. A crèche will be provided for any parents of young children. A small donation to the carers would be appreciated. Please ensure sufficient nappies, food, toys, etc for the child for the duration of the game.

Others need to be considerate of younger players.
