Danoseki

Danoseki was a gigantic city-state bloated on the use (and misuse) of power and magic. Its officials were corrupt, and its streets ran red with the blood of exploitation.

Until the Gods struck it down in contempt.

The few that survived the cataclysm were witness to a dark age where knowledge was lost and it was a trial to just survive. Modern counties are little more than discrete fiefdoms, controlled by paranoid and suspicious overlords who use might to extend their power base. Magic is a lost art, and those few that dabble have little to show and certainly wield no power. Bands of "Grey Men", warriors without masters roam the lands between fiefs carving out their own lands.

It is a land of a simple rule: if you possess or control it, you own it.
