Setting

The game is set in the modern-day world. Typically the game will remain centered in Canberra (it seems to be a focus for Avatars). PCs will be able to travel but long absences will effectively remove them from the game.

Canberra has changed

Rulers, heroes and gods walk among its streets. Goblins lurk in the
bitter places and dangerous things are in the wild.
Mayans rule the north, sacrificing their worshippers for even greater
power. Only a tenuous alliance between Sherwood Forest and the
Norse gods holds them back.
The bones of a great dragon lie in the ruins of Dickson, while beneath
the city streets Dwarven hammers beat out magic weapons.
Children disappear from their beds at night.
Castle Gruff spreads its power over Yarralumla, but is blocked by the
enigmatic Chinese gods.
A goddess of death rules over Woden hospital while vicious demons
and hateful dead war amidst the ruins of Queanbeyan.
Wearing armour and carrying a sword doesn't seem like a strange idea
anymore.
What happens next is up to you.

The actions of the PCs will decide the fate of themselves and those they are close to. They will not be saving the whole world, but they may need to save the city.

The difference between the Avatars and the Legends

The PCs are embodiments of Legend. They are literally walking stories. But they are not bound to exactly repeat what happened before. The themes and elements will try to draw them back, but these are new stories, new legends. Maybe this time they will get their happily ever after.

Possessions

Mundane possessions such as clothes, white goods and money are not very important to the game. PCs will need to cover living costs somehow and may spend points on Wealth or take Poverty as a flaw. Some technological items give bonuses (guns, rocket launchers, etc) but the most important items in the game will be Avatar items, such as Excalibur, Thor's Hammer and Zeus' Shield. Characters will probably not start with such items (but may), but can quest for them in-game.

Technology

see the TFN page.

Territory

An area or place becomes Territory when it embodies a legendary place such as Mount Olympus, Camelot, and Asgard. Aligned Territory gives Avatars the ultimate in home-ground advantage.

Territory gives all aligned Avatar a bonus (+5% or +10%) to everything, and penalises all unaligned Avatars with a penalty (-5% or -10%) to everything. Mortals and mortal aspects of Avatars are not affected by Territory.

Pantheons (for example Greek gods, Norse Gods and Egyptian Gods), Domains (such as Sun Gods, War Gods or Fertility Gods) and sometimes both can establish Territory. When the Territory is both but an Avatar only matches one the penalty and bonus cancel out to zero for that Avatar.

Any Avatar can create Territory, though it takes time. Avatars of the same Pantheon or Domain can cooperate to create Territory (and share the XP cost). Any unaligned Avatars within the designated area automatically prevent Territory being formed. Concentrations of technology in the area may also prevent the formation of Territory. Abandoned or unattended Territory fades away over time.

Initially Territory will only grant a +5% bonus over a small area (about the size of a typical bedroom). The Avatar must choose whether they wish to increase its size or its bonus. Territory with a smaller bonus grows more rapidly, but the larger it is the harder it becomes to increase the bonus.

Territory

Jack Chow is 25% mortal and 75% Cyclops. Within a few weeks he changes his bedroom into +5% Greek Pantheon Territory. He then chooses to expand the area and over a few months increases it to encompass the whole building. Satisfied with this, he focuses his energies on increasing the bonus. As he has to increase the bonus over the whole area this takes several months to come into effect. After a years worth of effort he ends up with the whole building at +10%.

+5% Territory is a 50% embodiment of the legendary place. All technology in the area has a 50% chance of failing. The area will physically change to become a bit more like the legend.

+10% Territory is a 100% embodiment of the legendary place. All technology in the area fails. The area will change to become much more like the legend.

Territory

Jack Chow is 25% mortal and 75% Cyclops. Lin Steven is 40% mortal 60% Hades. Lin attacks Jack in his Territory. As they are both from the Greek Pantheon and there's no Domain here, both get +10% to their skills.

As the fight progress, Lin is getting beaten as she hasn't the same fighting skills (Lin is on 70%, Jack is on 85%). She decides to move the fight. She runs back to her Territory. It's also Greek Pantheon but is additionally a Dead Domain. Lin still gets her +10%, but Jack now gets +10% for the familiar Pantheon and -10% for the foreign Domain. Lin's fighting is now 70%, Jacks is at 75%. Jack and Lin have to do Rock, Paper Scissors to get a blow in.

Lin yells for Nicholas (who embodies Anubis to 75%) to come and help with the fight. As the fight is still in Greek Panethon and a Dead Domain, Nicholas gets -10% for the foreign Pantheon and +10% for the familiar Domain. Nicholas' fighting remains at 75%. They are still using Rock, Paper Scissors, but as it's now two against one, Jack is likely to lose.
